Help ID this jazz bass ... No control plate ...

seems like this is a MIA Fender made in Mexico by Mexicans

If you're being tongue-in-cheek, you may actually be RIGHT. Wasn't there a fire at the Mexican Fender plant in the 90's, and they had to assemble several thousand "MIM" basses in California? I bet this is one of these.

I had a MIM Jazz I bought in the mid 90's from Sam Ash that had the single one piece pickguard on it. My understanding was that they had a few years where they built them that way. They had a killer sale. I'm almost sure I got it for $249 or $279 or even cheaper back then. I can't remember.

I have a '95 MIM Jazz Standard with that configuration. One of the best playing basses I've owned.

Well, it`s hard to tell since it`s not a well known model, but should be between a MIM and a MIA Standard.

I`d say somewhere close to a Highway I

I have a question about the 1-piece pickguard ... If I were to trace one for my MIM Jazz for pickguards.com, do you think I'd need the 2 top screws on the control plate, or do you think the 2 in the pickguard near the control plate will be fine since it's one piece?

I think it would look pretty ugly with those 4 screws so close together.

I think I'd go with the two screws in the control plate and lose the other two.

That one piece guard looks nice!

The one piece guard uses a different screw pattern than a guard/plate style bass. Obviously four screws that close together is not necessary with the one piece design.

Pickguards.com may already have the pattern in stock so you don't need the tracing. I know one company does but can't remember who it was. Maybe one of these. BTW, you'll have to drill some new screw holes on a traditional guard/plate bass.
