The Fretless Club (Part 2!)

Filling the fret grooves with epoxy (15-minute gives adequete work time) and sanding over-flow gives real dark lines on a rosewood board - nice.

Hi all in part 2.

My first fretless is being constructed. It should be ready in a month or so...

Home defret job. I had an old Yamaha RBX170 lying about so i decided to defret it and give it a new life.





Dont think i did too bad a job. The pics are a little old now, the only difference is that i now have some flatwound rotosounds on there

a rather weird bass i guess
i took some cheap wood from the hardwarestore, i think is was either spruce or pine plywood, cut it right, chambered it and painted the whole thing orange. then, i had an old neck lying around my room. i pulled out the frets, painted the fretboard dark red, as well as all of the hardware, and sealed it with hardwood floor finish. the back of a cupboard is now the pickguard and a guitar humbucker took its place by the neck. some chromes to complete the mellow sound.

It looks like a prop from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"--fantastic!

Just got my first Fretless yesterday. It's a 1990 Ibanez SB900LE (the fabled Sabre Bass).
It's the lightest and thinnest bass I have ever played.
It's also in amazing condition.
I was told it orginally belonged to Randy Coven. I sent the pix and the story along to Randy and am waiting to see if he can verify the story.
I was also told it was a custom Fretless job at the factory. There sure don't list a fretless option in the 1990 Ibanez catalog but I'm hoping Randy may shed some light on its origins.

MIM Jazz - waiting for the funds to epoxy the neck - may change the pups - maybe not.

Shazam! I snooze for a few days and the whole thing blows up. I'll get caught up on numbers late tonight, from the end of the old thread and the new members on this one.

The first fretless that I played was an Ibanez Musician, it was offered to me
with a Flanger. I only bought the Flanger, the Ibanez was a bit too much for me then.
The second fretless was a Hohner PJ FL with a carbon fretboard.

I've played it for 11 years, then it got stolen. It's replacement is a Rok Axe 4 string fretless, Rosewood fretboard,
flamed Maple neck and Korina body. Korean P- neck pickups and
DiMarzio G-bridge humbucker (original J pickup first replaced with
a '60s Höfner 513 sharkfin, after it's last breath the G took it's place).

This is my Crafter fretless acoustic bass

Do I get a number as well with this SX SPJ-62 3TS Fretless?

Here' my MTD Z4 fretless with TI Flats ( I just took off the DR Sunbeam Roundwounds and I like the TI tone better-more old school, like a double bass)...Peace...DAcat

I noticed the SB900 Ibanez Fretless by Ratblitz above and wondered if there are similar thin-necked fretless basses out there-and how dow they play and sound?...Thanks...Peace...DAcat
