So, I found a CL Ibanez of some sort, already refinished that looked like crap for $65. As you can see, I didn't even stop to take a picture before the frets started coming out.

Nope. I just pulled 'em out. I didn't know to do that. (My hair said to do it, I swear!) Continuing with my brash and uneducated ways, I'm not going to brush up on my building skillz for this one. It's going to be slapped together with a hammer, some glue, and lots of fun. Probably not the hammer, actually. (I have plans for 2 more! One rat rod P and a classy hot rod EUB which I will do right, or as right as I can.)

Thanks! :D This project was a lot like most of my relationships-It just happened. In that spirit, 90% I do is improvisation which started by seeing how hard it is to pull a fret. More of that in a minute...

I plan on finding a chunk of [insert wood type here] sitting around town. There was a nice oak? door that was too far to carry home and way to big to fit into my Accord that I saw yesterday. Oh I wish... :bawl:

The only plans I have are for an explorer shaped body and using my Duncans I never got to. SCPB-1 as near to the 24th position as I can (because I love Ric tone) and a SPB-1 near the Ric bridge position. Or maybe closer to the bridge because I loves me some honk!

Too late! I already put some putty in and will be sanding soon. This is a practice in how far I can get with no actual knowledge or real woodworking tools. It's a $65 bass and frankly, I don't care about it. All I have is a ratchet set, screwdrivers, pliers, and creativity. If you look closely, you can see the razor blade I used to put the putty on.

It's just like watching a horror movie. You know someones gonna die, but you're not sure "who" or "how"....and you know that in the end someones gonna live....be a bit worse for wear, but stronger in the long run.

Either that, or the heroes will get shot at the end, like in the original Dawn of the Dead.

The jury is still out on this one, but I like it...it's a blast to watch.

It's possible that this young man has just stumbled onto the lost secret of lutherie: awesome hair.

Someday, I, too, hope to happen upon awesome hair. Perchance I will be inspired/blessed with inspiration while being immersed in awesomeness at the Rush concert this weekend in Seattle.

I can donate some hair to you guys if need be. ;) I think DH has more woodworking hairs than I though. This will not be DH quality.

As for the bass, the stupid green stain is so far into the wood... UGH! A gloss black headstock could look good and save me the trouble... Hmmm

Did I mention the guy pulled off the nut to refinish it and reattached it with HOT GLUE. I already cleaned up the nut and the headstock, but seriously.

A few more. My biggest disadvantage is that I don't have a shop or many tools. Plus my build uses very little that is actually "guitar related parts".

What about just using a thin wood laminate on the headstock ? Shouldn't cost more than a few bucks to get the laminate at Woodcrafters, and they're easy to cut and glue on.

I have a one room apartment, a few very basic tools, and a habit of making shi-errr stuff up! :D

I've been considering doing this, but I want to know what body wood I'm using first. I'd like to match them. I'd love to walnut stain whatever body I find though. I always dug walnut / black combinations. P Bass, Explorer... uhhh. Something else?

What say you all of the name "Savage"? I think it's appropriate and I'd feel right at home riding my Savage (Suzuki motorcycle) with my Savage on my back going to a jam.
