A good instrument is a good instrument, no matter where it is made. Sure, there's a certain amount of cachet for a USA-made instrument and/or one made in Japan (ironic, I know), but really plenty of the Mexican-, Chinese-, and Indonesian-made Squiers and Fenders are really lovely to play and to look at.
It might as well be the motto of TalkBass: Play what you like; don't worry about what anyone else thinks.
