A 6 string bass gives tons of tonal range. For a player who wants to play solo stuff I´d say a 6 would be a good choice. Theory and scales are the same on a 4 or 6 string, you just have more room on the fretboard. As you have large hands you can´t go wrong. But persons with small hands can play...

In my experience, maple adds brightness and somehow more aggression to the overall sound. Works well for slap style or tapping for me. Rosewood makes the sound warmer or darker imo. But you CAN do all techniques on basses with both woods. As some members already wrote, try them both and let...

If you want walnut for the whole body then you could have it chambered, that would make the instrument lighter. The standard pickguard for 3 tone sunburst is Tortoise. Duhh... If you like it seventies style take a black one or do it like Jaco and use no pickguard. You can also have an exotic ;) one made out of wood like rosewood or colored maple.

Foderas or vintage Instruments are both instruments to express yourself in the first place. But that can be also achieved on other brands or none vintage equipment. In Foderas case I think its not only the woods, electronics and working time that makes them so expensive it´s also that they work...
