Double Bass Is this a real Wenzl B. Wilfer?

It looks like a 50's/60's german bass. Most likely plywood. That bridge MUST be moved!

Double Bass Rosin for solo playing

For solo playing I’ll use a few swipes of Kolstien AW, and then hit it with a little Bernadel cello rosin. I use Weidofts for orchestra, great stuff.

SOLD 1921 Hawkes and Son Panormo ‘H’ for sale/trade

How did you find a string long enough to go with an extension and the ZMT tailpiece?

Double Bass Repair: If I had a million dollars...

so one of my favorite basses I own is this old Tyrolean bass. I’ve had a lot of work done to it. When I purchased it I was told it had a neck block (which led me to believe it had a modern neck angle) surprise no neck block but wood added under the humps to function like a block(?). To make it...

Double Bass Any other "Dutch school" players out there?

I used to play with a lot of bicep tension, mainly doing with my physiology. With the angles I got a really clean sound, with good intonation but my right bicep would ache horribly. Like doing curls in one arm non stop for a few hours kind of ache. I ended up with some overdeveloped muscles on...

Double Bass how to play silently

My best results (I use a bow to practice): Rubber practice mute, Portable isolation booth, thick foam mat with a carpet underneath, small fan blowing to help "cover up" some sound. I've found this to really work, work enough that I can get my 2am practice sessions in without waking everyone.

    Double Bass Some String Help

On all the basses I've ever owned (7 at this point), I've never had a bass that sounded or felt amazing with flex deluxes. They're a jack of all trades and a master of none in my experience. Specially in a section, they just never sounded or felt right. YRMV

    Double Bass Some String Help

So on all my basses right now I have belcantos, I could use some help figuring out what to put on my blockless tyrolean with a low B. The bass has beautifully preserved arching, and has a newly carved bass bar to replace the integrated one. The instruments tone is dark and mature, however in...

    Double Bass Basses without purfling?

No Purfling, No problem. I should also mention there are no longer these strings on the instrument. This was post string breakage, I now have all Belcantos

Double Bass Blockless wonder, can anyone say something about this bass?

The neck looks replaced, and I believe I can see a saddle crack, and what could be an Fhole crack on the opposite side. I'm sure if we could take a look inside we would see some other repairs under that varnish, which might have been slapped on to hide something. I could see the top being newer...

Double Bass Extended E string; The Game

I do, its a great string. Comparable to belcantos but lighter. My issue with them was that even though they were starks, they still felt like light-medium strings. Although they had a nice tone, they didn't do much in the way of volume for me. This may be the way I play. I have three basses, an...

Double Bass Any other "Dutch school" players out there?

I used to be very into the New Dutch School. Sat low, played with a 190g long Bernard Walke bow. I loved it for solo playing but over the past year and a half have moved more towards a more traditional setup, and even into some bent endpin/Rabbath stuff. I do love the "Sound Concept" of the New...
