The bridge looks like the older style bridge but the tail piece looks to be from the newer Ampeg BBs ... so is it an older bass with a newer tail piece, or a newer bass with an older bridge?

Agreed 100% ... the original Ampeg BB is quite the sight to look at, in addition to its unique/punchy sound.

Call me crazy but I actually like the thump...it’s the reason many of us pursue the baby bass - it’s very characteristic of the instrument particularly for Latin music.

Does the Sendel have a Romberg bevel, like the Ampeg baby bass does? This changes the shape of the bridge a bit. Price-wise, don't worry about it and just cover shipping/handling (shouldn't be more than a few dollars). :)

You're most likely correct - it also doesn't help that the baby bass has a Romberg Beveled fingerboard - which makes the difference in action more noticeable.
