Uvex reshaping and patching.
Do any of you have experience flattening out a bubble in the Uvex shell of an Ampeg Baby Bass? How do you do it without further damaging the instrument?
I've also seen one with a portion of the Uvex shell missing and the interior foam showing. Do any of you have experience repairing that kind of damage?

I'm getting the neck and fingerboard fixed, but still wondering about the body damage. The seams are good. Chances are the hole in the lower back relieved some of the off-gassing pressure.
Do you know anybody whose has a technique for fixing the Uvex shell?
Nope. That's a lost, ancient art form. The Eastman Chemical Products, Inc. made this stuff, and I often wonder if it's toxic. A classic way to know if one has an authentic Ampeg BB is the stench from the "off-gassing". BTW, they're still around, and I saw something about Uvex plastic sheet somewhere on the WWW. I'd start with them. I'd bet some kind of casting knowledge is needed to perform this kind of surgery. Enjoy this beaut. If you get to repair it, it's worth its value.
I took some time down at the docks yesterday, found the fiberglass repair guys, they estimated about 8 to 10 hours work to patch the hole, and they wouldn't touch the bump/blister. Their shop rate was $110/hour, so repairing the hole is a little out of reach at this point. Thanks for the ideas! Keep them coming!
Wow. For the $1k+ these guys want to charge you could probably get a new top 3D printed! I'm not sure fibreglass people are necessarily the best ones to talk to anyway. Plastics, especially welding and repair is a whole different thing. Being a large port city Seattle for sure has several industrial plastics companies. The ones who do custom one-off work may be your best place to start. There could well be exceptions but the outfits who make large quantities of dock floats, tanks industrial storage boxes etc are less likely to be of help except maybe to point you to a smaller custom outfit. Good luck with this. Not everyone can make friends with a Baby Bass but I love the things.

Anybody have any lines on gig bags these days? I see that Ray Ramirez doesn't have them on his site anymore, but there is Gigstrong cases... Anyone have one of those?
You could try KK Baby Bass. However, they are located in the UK and from my experience somewhat difficult to reach.

Small US company making excellent covers and gigbags. Wouldn't surprise me if they had a stock baby bass cover. If not they'll make anything you want. There is an extra charge for custom work but for what you get their prices are reasonable.

For sure is not a Ray Ramirez bass. It kind of looks like a Sendel from Colombia.

That looks like a badly repainted Ampeg… it’s an early to mid sixties cause of the bridge. It’s an older style bridge.
To the left and to the right of the pick up are two adjusting screws. Rotating the screws increase or decrease the pick distance from the round metal diaphrams discs. If the distance is too close, it would do what you are discribing. If the distance is too far, it could do the same. This is how you adjust the sound of the bass and almost the volume that puts out.

I have a new, still in the box Ray shipped it in, gig bag from Ray Ramirez. I have never used it in the 4 years I've owned it and I doubt that I will put it to use, so I'm willing to sell it forward. As per website, he sells them (or used to sell them) for $185 + s&h. Message me directly if interested.

The bridge looks like the older style bridge but the tail piece looks to be from the newer Ampeg BBs ... so is it an older bass with a newer tail piece, or a newer bass with an older bridge?
