My ideal Baby would be a Zorko (1958 or so) fibreglass body (white) outfitted with 1966 Ampeg electronics.

Didn't know The Zorko's came in white, (very cool), seen them in black the few times I've seen one.....as for off-gassing, just don't leave them in the sun or heat too long. Or you'll have to deal with that distinct odor of smelly old ass. 
There are a lot of clones out there and for the most part they're all pretty cool. I'm a fan of the first ones. Zorko because they invented it, and Ampeg for making it world known. Anything afterwards are just clones. None-the-less....still purty cool!
Could anyone throw out some names of brands that are widely available in the US?

I own a KK baby bass. They're made in the UK but maybe you can find a used one in the US? It's not an exact copy though, the bridge is made out of wood and it doesn't sound the same but I love it never the less.
Ray Ramirez from Puerto Rico builds baby basses and there's a builder / company from Columbia named M.O.G. There are other columbian brands too. Azola is another brand but the builder Steve Azola doesn't live anymore. Another company goes by the name BLlanes and also there's Blady. A lot of players use a Palatino which does not look like baby bass but seems to be a popular and inexpensive choice.

Any opinions on Geneva Violins ? Saw a guy on youtube playing one and found a few used being sold here. Sounded like the real thing to me.
Checked out the MOG and they are interesting for sure. Would probably skip the P pickup with those but shipping from Colombia seems like it would take a while. Id definitely consider one if I have no options for anything sooner.

Look into the Corvann baby basses from Colombia. They are really outstanding basses.
I’ve got a KK Baby Bass, and I’m pretty happy with it. The build quality is top notch and the diaphragm pickup sounds great.
I had a Blady before it and the build quality was no where close to the KK.

I’ve been playing a KK Baby Bass for a few years now. I love it! It has great output, plays beautifully, and has the classic thump I need.
Kai, have you played one? I know that Ruben R and Oscar Stagnaro have been playing these.
Honestly I haven’t. I spoke to the company owner extensively.
Ruben loves his.
Also Sergio Munera bassist with Grupo Niche and Oscar D’Leon raved about them.
The cool thing is that besides sounding really good, built by hand and made of wood, they are small and light. You can fly with the travel model. I would like to get one myself but I don’t really have a need for one. I have an Ampeg but I’m tempted to get a Corvann.
Do any baby basses come with a case? I can't find any mention of cases or gig bags on the various manufacturers' websites. How do people transport them?
