Uber bassists- I don't get it.

For what it's worth, I can remember a couple of bass players (I think Wooten was one of them) express their concern that they might be losing job opportunities because they were such capable solo players and they wanted the prospective employers to know that they could also play the role of a...

Sold a working amp, and the buyer isn't happy. What to do...

If you decide to refund, buyer pays return shipping, in other words, have him make the drive to you.

I keep going back to Fender.

Now I know this is superficial, but in addition to be the original, Fenders Basses IMO, are also the coolest.

Im Just No Gettin The Boutique Thing

The way I see it, people will buy these types of basses, because it pleases them in some way. If you are a more affluent person, you can afford to indulge yourself more than the average guy. It's very controversial, because it's often hard to pin down reality as it's subjective and differs from...

Bob's wall of SVT and more

Nice collection! Do you have names for all of them? :)

    Short scale recommendations

One more vote for the Squier Bronco. First upgrade, if you do any, I recommend is the bridge. You may not need a pickup swap. I don't think they are as bad as some claim. YMMV. My son found one at a pawn shop for $70 and he's been playing it stock.

Removing wood/weight on old Jazz Bass

I have a 70s reissue and wouldn't mind it being lighter either. Currently 9.6-9.8 pounds. As far as sound goes, Sadowsky claims chambering helps. Also, as others have said, beware of hurting resale value, unless you don't care about that sort of thing.

    Love Levy's straps, but...

I think he's going to need a MUCH bigger strap if he's gonna be carrying that kind of weight. :)

    Love Levy's straps, but...

I've been using the Levy's DM1PD. I originally thought I wanted the 4+ inch models but didn't want to spend north of $60. Some people said the 4" straps were too wide, so I took a chance on the 3-1/4" DM1PD in brown. As you can see in the picture, the logo is embossed in the leather. Now, the...

The Bace is now Bass Of The Week!

Regarding the headstock: It's a marriage of old and not so old. A contrast that makes the bace stand out and get noticed. Like taking a cello and hotrodding it.

What Do They Want To Play?

Trombone in the band primarily. Then some guitar and more recently bass in the band also.

    Bass speaker in guitar amp?

The electronics will be designed for guitar. Although, some guitar amps have eq presets to capture a certain tone. My son's mustang amp has a bass setting that does OK.

    Vintage basses pricing. Seriously?

It starts mostly with emotion, then when enough people join the movement, it becomes normal. Plenty of people with affluenza. Jack prices up, happy to pay thousands. $10,000 to them is like $100 to everyone else. Same thing with cars, real estate, etc, etc.

    American and foreign

You should try out the different basses at your local store. IME, the differences are far less than Fender would like you to believe.
