Maybe you just need to relax your left hand more? Maybe use your weight to hold down the string instead of pressing? The double stops in koussevitzky injured my hand when I first started playing it because 1) I was pressing instead of using my weight, and 2) i was very anxious about playing it...

I only rosin about once a week, depending on how much im playing. Chances are there's always still a little bit of rosin left over anyways, so you just need to warm it up a little. It's better for your bow hair and technique. I die a little bit on the inside every time someone calls it...

Use the vibrations! Learn how each note feels on your finger tips and bow hand. It's also helpful to press your ear against the neck.

Cincinnati conservatory grad students are very well off when it comes to scholarships. But if you woo the teachers, be patient, and know how to negotiate and sell yourself, you can get a great scholarship almost anywhere.

Let's keep in mind that IU has 1 billion bassists. I'm sure the percentage of students winning jobs are about the same, if not more, at places like Curtis or rice.
