I like the look of worn out maple fret boards. If I had extra money, I'll buy a nicely road worn one and put it in a display case. But the truth is, if I were to choose between a new bass and a roadworn one, I'll go for the new one :)

I think it's gonna be too close to be playable. You can try a very very long scale length but that would make the lower frets too far apart. On some instruments they only make the neck fretted up to a certain point then the rest of the neck becomes fretless.
