Echoing JTE's post. The techniques came from a musical NEED. Well Jamerson obviously the one finger thing came from upright. But Wooten, by his own account he couldn't play Stanley Clarke lines fast enough with 2 fingers, so the double thumb/ double pluck thing developed there. EVH...
