Can't even give away the big iron these days

I hope this means my chances of getting a deal on an SVT someday are getting better! I’m lucky that I don’t have to worry about how much my gear weighs, everything i own is heavy, but I have a strong back. (Years of manual labor)

The bar for playing out is set way to low

Everyone sucks until they don’t. Should they stay home until they’re good? That’s entirely up to whomever will give them a place to play.

    My first lay off

You have to keep pressing on until the right opportunity pans out, I met several people who took 12 months or longer to find a new job when I was laid off. I’m still angry and probably always will be, but now I’m at a company where I feel appreciated, but it took getting past several setbacks...

Anyone Else Kind of Not Play Bass and Come to This Forum?

I’m in that camp, I have a decent bass rig and play it sometimes but I’m primarily a guitar player. I’ve just found that I really like this site, tons of good info and smart people, and minimal gear snobbery.

One of my guitarists had a melt down (explosion)

    I’d give your idiot’s JCM a good home...and I understand impedance. :D

    My first lay off

Here’s the thing, you just have to market yourself the right way and have the right answers to interview questions. So you are 65, you can easily work many more years, and in today’s work climate it’s typical for people to job hop every 3-5 years. If you can offer a solid 5-10 or more years to a...

Guitar Center (hardly even a shell of what it used to be)

Maybe my standards aren’t as high...but the nearest GC to where I live is like grownup Toys R Us to me, it seems like they have lots of high end gear. Also, when I bought my used American P Bass there about 7 years ago, I negotiated $100 off the price.

    My first lay off

I went through my first layoff this past fall, I was told on Nov 1st that my last day would be Dec 28th. Went through all the same emotions, upset, angry, was told my position was being eliminated and yet they had to promote someone else to take over my duties. Total f---kin con-job, and and it...

Your favorite band that should have broken up sooner....

Green Day after Insomniac... up to and including that album I could listen to them, after which they became incredibly boring and all the loathsome political BS, and plus I hated Armstrong’s guitar tone which to me became very generic.

Pedals you want to love but no matter what you can't.

I have a TC Electronics Harmonizer pedal that I can’t seem to get it to do what I’m looking for and get the sound that’s in my head (referring to my lead guitar). It may be in large part that I need to learn more about music theory and the many settings on the pedal... I want to sound like Brian...

    How are 6x10's wired?

Ahh... makes sense! Now, you COULD wire an 8x10 with 8ohm speakers to result in a 4ohm load, but that of course is more complicated. But, while I’m not a speaker engineer, I believe there are other advantages to higher impedance speakers...

    How are 6x10's wired?

Huh, I learned something new! I don't think 32ohm guitar speakers are a thing, it must offer some advantage in bass speakers. I can say that I tend to favor 16ohm guitar speakers vs 8ohm. It's also not unusual to run non-matching impedance guitar cabs with the same amp.

    How are 6x10's wired?

32 ohm drivers? Unless bass speaker tech is vastly different than guitar speakers I’d assume that 4x10 has 4 - 8ohm speakers in it wired in series/parallel to get 8ohms.
