Very late to the subject but i have been checking some information for my 4003 Jetglo Bass that has this same problem and found this forum. I bought it used and when i bought it, it didn't have the problem. I stored it in his Ric case for a few months (3-4) and suddenly the sticky, gummy bass...

I think i get a pretty good sound with the EMG Select pickups on my XT-2DB and even better with the BDDI. I think it sounds very powerful and "meaty". I would really recommend you to try it if you haven't already.
