Steinberger Club

Hey, lookee what showed up in the mail today. Yes friends, it's a much rumored (but seldom seen in the wild) authentic Steinberger Strap Hook! I've had this on order for almost a year now from Sam Ash, had pretty much given up on ever being able to find one again. Actually found someone to copy/fabricate a few for me so not a biggie. Was told that Gibson (who bought out Steinberger several years ago) had quit making anything Steinberger including basses so I was surprised when a couple weeks ago the guy I talk to as SA called me to tell me they had some coming in and that they'd be filling my order soon. Too Cool!

If you have a Spirit, XL2, any of the "boat paddle"shaped Steinies and have never played one with the strap hook installed you don't know what you're missing. Takes a fairly uncomfortable (to me anyway) instrument, shifts it to your picking hand several inches making it a normal feeling stretch to the end of the neck. Makes it much more comfortable and playable. Works great too on basses with no upper bout (Thunderbirds, Les Pauls etc, have one installed on both my T-Birds). $25 a pop shipping included. No affiliation with SA, just passing the info along in hopes it will be helpful to someone.

No idea of how many they got in or how long they'll have them in stock BUT if you're looking for one to my knowledge SA still (hopefully) has some in stock right now.

Name is Matt Marcus, extension 2360. He's familiar with these and should know if they still have stock. Good luck.

Thanks! I called the general number early today and asked about em. That guy forwarded me to another store he said might have em and that guy wouldn't let me get a word in... When I said Steinberger, her started blathering about Gibson dancing factories on the Steinbergers yadda yadda and hung up on me.... I never got the opportunity to tell him what I wanted.... I own a biz and if an employee of mine pulled that, he would be a gone ass.....

I also emailed Gibson support and haven't received a reply... Damn....

Thanks again for the info. I'll call him in the morning....

Just a FWIW ... I am a huge fan of Rotosound SS roundwounds on all my other basses. But I just tried them out on my XL-2 and was fairly uninspired by the tone. I am looking forward to reverting back to the "official" Steinberger strings as the five sets I've had on order have finally arrived.

I like the Steinberger's best, with the .128-.45 in nickel, i have "my tone" then; when liking it a bit brighter, one can chose the stainless. Prices and availability do strongly vary, so i got me 5 sets for a 100$ by occasion... which will last for my days.

I'm hoping someone can help me. I just bought a new Steinberger Spirit bass and I'd like to get the strap that makes the bass hang more like a normal bass with a horn. I have read a few of the threads here but all the links are old and no longer have the item.
Thanks.

Good luck on finding one. Although it is not as much an issue with me as I am tall, I'm probably gonna hit a machine shop and have exactly what I want custom milled....

One member (I think on here) waited almost a year for a hook. I contacted his guy and he pretty much had no clue if ever again...

Just for grins I thought I would share this.... Don't get me wrong, I don't regret for a sec buying the XT-25... Great bass...

I FINALLY got a reply from Gibson noSupport on a factory Steinberger parts....

I wanted a string adapter and the strap hook and have contacted several of the big boy dealers....with responses "after saying I had a question re: Steinberger" ranging from one ranting like hell about Gibson for several minutes and hanging up on me to another telling me they had just finished removing anything and everything that mentioned Steinberger from their web site and print because of Gib's flakiness.... Most came very close to a rant about dealing with Gib (Gib owns Steinberger) about anything...

This is the reply from Gib noSupport after about ten days from my contact... Yeuh buddy..... Prompt Hollah Backz Iz Us... Now this is funny as hell if'n you think about it....

This is about what they told me:
"They "may" be in stock at Gib maybe sometime within the next 90 days. When they are in stock, I can then contact a dealer and ask them to order one for me."

How in the stem winding hell will anybody know when Gib has anything in stock?
Most I talked to in search of parts seemed to get physically ill once Gibson was mentioned...and said getting anything from them was a crap shoot....

Paul Smith should buy Steinberger...

I just joined the ranks and purchased a NS Design CR5 Radius bass.

I traded my special edition Roscoe Century Standard 4 String and Maruszczyk Elwood L5A (yes, this actual bass) to get it.

My initial thoughts? The bass is heavier than I think it should be. Particularly bottom heavy, but it feels better when it's on a strap. Overall, I'm really pleased with the tone, although you can't get that Marcus Miller slap tone. Fortunately, I don't slap on a 5 string.

Tone wise? with both pickups, it's close to my Fodera, but not quite as versatile.

More later.

Hey friends! I don't own a vintage Steinberger(but I LOOOOVE them), but I do play the current NS Design CR5 Radius basses, and I consider Ned a friend. The first bass I I bought with my own $ back in '89 was a Cort Steinberger copy in white($80 borrowed from Dad! What a deal!),and I've been a headless fan ever since. Can I join?
