    First bass build finishing advice

I used Formbys miniwax low gloss tung oil on mine, which is also walnut and maple. The only issue with it is that it needs a light wire wool and recoat every year or two depending on usage. If you were building for yourself, that would be less of an issue but if you are building for someone...

My first bass build - The DM Semel

well, I haven't really played since I was a teenager so have refrained from recording myself until now, but after a few FB friends had asked, I leant this riff 2 days ago and bit the bullet. Its clear that I have to build up the strength in my left hand (The injured arm) as thats what the slight...

My first bass build - The DM Semel

The bandsaw was just a rough cut with the spokeshave used to get the desired shape. I marked the thickness of the neck and the bandsaw was used to cut 1mm bigger than the final thickness. We then cut the fretboard to 1mm wider than the final shape and then glued it on and used a template cutter...

My first bass build - The DM Semel

I actually got away without paying import tax on the bookmarked walnut for some reason. I knew of David dyke but it's a bit of a drive to see what they got as they don't have pictures on their Web site. Didn't know about exotichardwoodsukltd.com though. Will have a look when I do thebnext build...

Then in went the camphor fret markers I drilled and then I used a 20" radiused sanding block to get the curved fretboard shape. There's no finish on that wood. That's 600 grit sanding, then turn the paper over and buff like crazy to get some heat in the wood and that's the shine I got Gold...

My first bass build - The DM Semel

At almost 40yrs old, I haven't played bass for many years. I gave it up for 6-string, then life, family and kids got in the way of my music and I slowly lost interest. last year, I picked up a Tanglewood rebel 4K when my interest in musk was sparked again, and I realized that although my...

E-String will not intonate Yamaha BB

going back to basics, when you set the intonation using the the 12th fret harmonic (as i do), then you will be correct at the 12th fret. The amount you stretch the string at any given fret will be different to that at say the 9th fret, of the 15th. The higher your action, the worse this problem...
