Thank you very much for that - so, 250k MN audio taper (log) type blend pot then. I’ve very appreciative of that.

On the subject of the Palaedium - does anyone who has one with original, unmolested circuitry tell me the value of the blend potentiometer? I have a circuit diagram but for some reason the value of the blend pot is the only thing not shown. At the minute it has a 500k blend but as I’m rewiring...

How many amps (heads) do you have?

Four, at the minute...... TC Electronic RH750 and RH450, TC BH800 and Trace Elliot GP12 SMX/Mackie M1400.

    Longevity of a cheap bass.

Don’t class any Peavey basses from that era as “cheap” - they were better than anything that Fender, Gibson, etc were producing at that time. Late ‘80s/early ‘90s Peaveys are all I play, apart from a 1982 GR Lasido Z1 fretless.

    Whackiest mass-produced basses?

Just the same way as on any five string bass?

    Prices of 70s basses

In 1973 I bought a brand new Fender Precision, for £235, from Norbury Music Centre in London. If I’m being honest I never liked it and sold it about six months afterwards. I’ve only owned one other Fender (a ‘63 Precision) and that ended up going the same way, although for a lot more than I...

    EQ for Graphtech Piezo saddles

Obviously there are people here with far more real-world and theoretical experience of using piezo bridge systems, so I doubt that I can add much to that except to say that in my (limited) experience it’s still necessary to have some means of balancing string outputs - ie something like the...

    EQ for Graphtech Piezo saddles

This is all very interesting (and relevant) to me at the minute, as although I’ve been playing bass for what seems like forever, until I got this bass I had no experience of piezo systems at all. Originally it would have had the purpose built Zeta preamp but that must have given up long before I...

    EQ for Graphtech Piezo saddles

Does the bass already have magnetic pickups fitted and, if so, does it have active onboard eq? My understanding is that you’d have to use some sort of buffer stage (like the Richter PPX, which also has trimpots for each string output) so that the piezo pickups can “see” a suitably high...

    Zeta piezo bridge problems.....

About a month ago I happened on a GR LaSiDo (Godin) Z1 fretless bass for sale in great condition and, liking slightly different stuff anyway, I bought it. It arrived safely and especially considering its age it’s in great condition - however, the first thing that I noticed upon trying it was...

I’d rather be great player than own a great bass.

Don’t you think that it negates the point of having a “fast” lens if you then stop it down to reduce abberations? The whole reason for having a well-corrected wide aperture lens is that you *can* use it at its widest apertures without any sort of abberation being an issue - in fact, some fast...

Fired/not recruited for playing the wrong brand.

The attention should be on the music, and that’s all that 99% of the punters care about - they don’t know a Dingwall from a Steinberger from a Wal from a Spector anyway. My wife doesn’t, and she’s been married to bass players for 50 years (me, and her late first husband).

Fired/not recruited for playing the wrong brand.

In 50+ years I can honestly say that has never happened to me. Maybe it’s an American thing, this whole “band leader” concept? All the bands that I’ve been in (some of them pretty damn good too) never has the matter of what bass I play come into question, any more than what make of kit the...

What's going to replace the Precision?

I’ve owned two - the first one I bought new in 1973 and the other was a ‘63 that I bought about 15 years ago. The ‘63 was the better of the two but I found them both underwhelming and didn’t keep either of them long. Maybe that makes me a heretic but they just didn’t do it for me...
