Hey @singlemalt I'm just picking up on this old thread because you said you had used mixed sets of TI flats for Dingwalls. Is that just 4-stringers? I'm wondering whether their longest-scale low B (JF36136) will fit my Combustion 5 (37").

The Dingwall is the best bass I have owned. The big contrast between the series and parallel pickup switch positions makes it very versatile. But to be honest I'm still on a tone hunt. I've renovated my MTD Z5 and put flats on it. And I use my Samick fretless 5 with semi-rounds quite a bit too...

Thanks @Wasnex. I suspect bass reinforcement by the floor depends a lot on the nature of the floor, and the first article you linked seems to back that up. But no question that a subwoofer would fatten up the kick. We'll probably get to that point sooner or later.

Totally agree. But I can't expect a little store in Nanaimo, BC (even Long & McQuade) to stock extra-long 5-string half-rounds just for me to buy one every 10 years. They could order for me, but the effort of a 1-off for them is probably not worth the slim profit margin. And might take longer...

The only reason I have more than one bass is that no-one has the patience for me to remove frets and change strings between songs.
