Strings Options for Multicsale bass

Good People of TalkBass,
Newbie here.I have had an opportunity to own a custom Multiscale bass(5 string). I was looking out for string options other than Kaliums since they are hard to be found here. I came across
Ernie Ball 2850 Bass 5 Slinky Electric Bass Strings
and that says 35"+ scale basses. has anyone tried that out for their multiscale basses?

What’s the fan on your multiscale? Is it the Dingwall 34”-37”, or 33”-35” or something else? That’s vital information.

Mine is a 34"-37", Neutral point is at 12th fret

SIT has a 5-string set of Power Wound Nickels specifically designed for 34"-37" multi-scale.

B, E and A on the SIT Dingwall set are taperwound. How long is the taper on them?

Ernie Ball "super long" = 38" ball end to taper. Would that be long enough for the full winding on the low B to go past the nut?

The only problem with this particular set is those specific gauges, 45-65-85-105-130, are designed to work better on a single-scale bass.

B, E and A on the SIT Dingwall set are taperwound. How long is the taper on them?

Taper looks to be 1.25". My calipers moved before I took the picture but the measurement is right.

Thanks! I was just curious because of the particular bridge design on Dingwalls. Now I know.

Payson strings are a drop in fit for the longscale Dingwall basses. Lots of cool options with Payson.

Jason at FretNation.com is super knowledgeable on what strings fit longscale multi scale basses. He’s also been helpful with my strange requests, singles, and even a mixed length set of TI flats for my Dingwalls.

The Dingwall strings are very nice and should fit. Kalium has sets.

DR sets work on my four string Dingwalls, the E just makes it over the nut at 36.25” .

There are options.

Payson Bass I have been loving for years.
Their nickel wounds vs Dingwall nickel have more mids and really thump and ring.

Harmonics jump out even more than the Dingwall strings.

Playing unplugged they’re loud.

Hey @singlemalt I'm just picking up on this old thread because you said you had used mixed sets of TI flats for Dingwalls. Is that just 4-stringers? I'm wondering whether their longest-scale low B (JF36136) will fit my Combustion 5 (37").

I have full 6 set on NG3, yes, the JF36136 will fit with room to spare, photo for reference. It will intonate at the bridge right before silk starts as well, sounds like a grand piano.

Got set from fretnation, they sell pre-assembled sets that fit 5 and 6 string dingwalls, very good experience, you don’t have to hunt for singles or combine sets.

It’s a mix of jf36x and jf34x.
BEA are JF36x and DGC are JF34x.

Check with Jason at FretNation. I’m not sure they carry TI strings at the moment. He will have other options.

Payson strings specializes in multi scale and he has lots of options. With a wide selection of gauges, you can request off menu sets. He set me up with a great set on super light stings. He has flats and I think he also carries TI JF’s.

Correction, looks like FretNation has just what you need.

I put TI flats on my AB 1 six string and it was super nice.

Another option for the six string was Infeld super alloys. Round wound but a nice, thick, sound once they broke in.

The TIJF are painfully bright at first but settle in after a a week or two, then you are good for another decade or so. Which makes them about the most economical strings out there!
