    NBD - Counterfeit Ric 4004LK

Actually, Rick DID make a Lemmy sig bass - that's what a 4004LK is. I can understand that the real thing is way too expensive for most of us to afford, but I don't understand the desire to own a fake...it would always, always bug me, even if it was a perfect fake (which this isn't - even the...

Drummer kept the cash. Worth saying something?

Wars get started because people don't express themselves honestly "for fear of causing offence". Rather let it fester for a while, then completely over-react when you can't take it anymore, that seems to be the polite, "civilized" way to do things in our screwed-up world! Like so many others...

    $how your bargain amp buys

OK, so I still need to take some photos: in South Africa you can still find some bargains, especially in amps. I bought a 1969 Marshall Super PA 100W (still the plexi control panel) 2 years ago for the equivalent of about $500 - except for tubes and 2 control knobs, all original and it's a tone...

    Basses still made in Korea?

Unless things have changed in the last 2 years, you'll probably find the Gretsch Electromatic basses are still Korean.

being capable of bass maintenance makes it easier/cheaper to own economy-priced instruments

I agree that all bassists should at least be able to do a basic setup on their instrument. I've actually never needed to take any of my instruments to a luthier - I find it amazing that some folks seem to need their regular luthier the way most of us need their go-to car mechanic! It really...

not sure what to do with this band i am in...

Why do you need to ask? You're clearly not happy playing with these guys, clearly believe that they're not good enough for you (be careful there...you sound like you have a pretty high opinion of yourself!) and feel that playing with them is a waste of your time, talent and potential. So just...

lots of bands with semi-hollow guitars but solid basses--why?

I wasn't expecting such an in-depth analysis based on a simple comment, but each to their own. I simply suggested that (a) guitar and bass guitar are related (closely, in the same way that viols are related to each other), and (b) with respect to slap (and no, I'm not a "slap player", just...

lots of bands with semi-hollow guitars but solid basses--why?

I don't fully agree - they're very closely related, evolution-wise. They play different roles, but to some extent there's an overlap (or there can be, depending on your style). As for slap on a hollowbody, you can maybe not be as rough as on a solid body but on my Gretsch hollow it sounds pretty...

Do you think if you told people your relic'd custom shop 62 jazz bass was a real bass from 1962

Which is more genuinely a "Fender" anyway - a Squier made in Indonesia or a Fender made in China? It's all semantics these daze...

NOBD: Am I being too picky?

This b-s of paying a premium for what is basically a pre-aged, pre-worn-out item really gets up my nose. Just buy a new instrument and give it some genuine wear.

NOBD: Am I being too picky?

As someone else pointed out, sold "as is" implies to me "buyer beware" - i.e. it may be fine or it may be not, your risk. I find it amusing (and a bit strange) that you choose a fake-aged finish, then complain about GENUINE wear and tear! :-)

Need info on this "unnamed" Ibanez bass in local classifieds

It's a mid-'80's Ibanez Musician MC940. Lovely bass, and way undervalued IMO. I've been GASsing for one since about 1980! :-)

Confession Time: I Am In Lust - With A SAMICK!

I beg to differ. You get to that point by getting thousands of employees, who don't really give a poopie, to churn out enough guitar shaped objects that some of them may be OK to play. Maybe they do OK work for other brands, but my own experience with Samick sucked.
