1972 Peavey Standard 260h. 130 watts of solid state American Peavey bliss. It’s missing the corners and pointer stickers on the knobs, but in good condition otherwise. Paid $150 CAD; roughly $120 US.

I’m hoping to pair it with a vintage Traynor cab for a cheap rig loosely inspired by DFA1979.

I used to play one of these back in the day paired w/a tight sounding 1x15 Black Widow Cabinet. That little rig never let me down.

100 bux from a pawn shop.
I didn't need it, but I saw that it hadn't moved
in 3 years and figured they might want the shelf space.
Weighs about 40 pounds, but it's good for 600 watts
into 2 ohms!

1970s music man HD130- $200 on Craigslist. It was found at an estate sale, I don’t think the seller knew what he had.

Hartke bass stack- also $200 also on Craigslist. My dad bought it from some lady in a metal band for a Christmas present. Before then I had a cheap Squier bass combo

I bought this Acoustic Image Clarus 2 for a couple hundred bucks. It's a great little amp, especially for upright or practice with acoustic gigs. Sometimes I wonder why I lug around the heavy duty stuff, when you can hook up a pair of 112's to this little guy and go to work.

Because you know deep down inside that God will flood the world again before the light small cabs put out the bass thunder of a Bag End

Probably not as much a bargain, but I felt fortunate to snag this last week on CL for $600.

Is that a PR-410HLF on the bottom? If so that is one of the best sounding and loudest 410 cabs I've ever heard, very good deal I think.

Occassionally you can still find "good" deals on these 1820’s because they weigh a ton. But they also sound great, and have that legendary indestruciblity factor that Peavey is famous for. $50,however, is one helluva bargain.

Yorvkville XS400h for $80 CDN, it had a busted outlet connection, but found the replacement part at an electronic shop for $10.

My first big amp purchase was in a newspaper classified ad. I got a like-new Nemesis 2x10 combo along with a Mesa Diesel 4x10 for $400. Ultimately sold the Nemesis for $350. Not bad...

GK Backline 600 for $23 as not working. Cleaned the pots and jacks and it sounds great. My EBS Hd350 for $99 with low volume. Cleaned the effects loop jacks and it is now my main amp. Made it into a combo with my $40 Carvin cab, a free Eminence crossover (bought for $30 and sold Carvin Xover for $30) and a $60 pair of Deltalite neos.

No photo, but I was at a Goodwill thrift store and I saw an old rat-fur covered 15 inch cabinet that I would have passed by, except that I could see an aluminum dust cap through the grill cloth. I thought that there might be a good speaker in the very low-end cabinet. I paid about twenty bucks for it, and when I opened it up, I found a 1960s JBL D130 speaker inside. A perfect upgrade for one of my 1960s Ampeg B15 cabinets!

OK, so I still need to take some photos: in South Africa you can still find some bargains, especially in amps. I bought a 1969 Marshall Super PA 100W (still the plexi control panel) 2 years ago for the equivalent of about $500 - except for tubes and 2 control knobs, all original and it's a tone (and volume) monster. I also got a 1965 Vox AC50 for about $400, although it's been re-capped and is a bit road worn - also sounds amazing.

Wish I still had my "bargain amp", which also happened to be my first- a mid 70's (Magnavox?) Ampeg V4B head and Traynor 215 cabinet. Got the set from a local pawn shop in my home town back in 1987 for $150 CDN!

Of course, that was also back in the day when tubes started "sucking" and the Rack was the range! I didn't care.

While it wasn't incredibly loud (the speakers would fart out under full steam- at least until replaced with a mismatched set of Peavey Scorpion Plus 15s- 4 ohm and 8 ohm each!), it had a certain sound (or Mojo, if you prefer) that I never heard from any other amp.
