    SX basses

Bought my short scale SX Jazz on TB and it's my go-to bass, I love it. Just pulled the trigger on a short scale PJ, had it set up with flatwounds and it sounds great. Just wish I could find a black pickguard, the one on rondo's website is for the standard Ursa 3, not the 3/4 size. :(

Where's all the short scale bass players?

I LOVE my short scales! I have a Jay Turser violin bass with Deep Talking Flats, a Essex (SX) short scale J with the old Fender-style headstock (bought from a TBer), and today I just got my Hadean U-Bass from Rondo music. I'd love a shorty P (a friend has a vintage 70s mustang short scale...

I'm kicking myself for not buying one of these last year. If anyone knows now to get a copy, I'm interested!

From r/bass on reddit, oven has an additional feature...

Invalid Link Removed That is all sorts of awesome. I don't think he can bake in that oven ever again because it will always be SO COOL.

to those with rounds on their viola bass...

jasper383, that may be the way to go. I still have the old factory rounds that came with, but my local music shop is probably still having their 1/2 price string sale so I may go and splurge for Mother's day!

to those with rounds on their viola bass...

Which ones do you prefer? I picked up a nice Jay Turser last year on CL for cheap, and based on my teacher's recommendations (and all those here) stuck a set of LaBella deep talkin' flats on it. After playing for awhile I love the silky strings but am not a fan of the sound. It's a little too...

How Can You Isolate Bass Off A CD?

As all have said above, listen and practice, nothing can substitute. I can transcribe fairly well but that's from years of piano lessons, I'm still learning to play bass! I use Audacity, a free program, to mess with songs. I import a song, then under 'Effects', I use the Bass Boost, Low...

learning bass as an adult...I got on NPR!

I left a message on NPR's website as a comment about a story where a guy started learning guitar in his 40s (no musical background) and it got read on NPR this morning! Oddly enough, I literally had just turned on the radio and got to hear it or else I would have never known!! Your Letters...

    Headphones for transcribing

I have a pair of Sennheiser 202's which work fine. I would also suggest downloading Audacity, a great program which lets you slow down songs without changing the key. When I transcribe bass lines, I usually rip the song at the highest quality I can, then import into Audacity, and apply Bass...

    Squier Standard Jazz bridge questions

Pilgrim, yes yes I do NOT want to drill into my bass!! It's a nice rootbeer-colored 'walnut' and I do not want to mess with it.

    Squier Standard Jazz bridge questions

I have a Squier Standard Jazz that came out of the box with some really wonky intonation problems. They're under control, but it's stretching the saddles on the bridge to their limit. I'm a newbie at repair/replacing, and my instructor suggested replacing the bridge. Does anyone know what bridge...
