Damien erskine bass education online class

Damian has helped me figure out a workaround. He responded very quickly and was very helpful. I haven't watched a single video yet but I already enjoy supporting him - seems like the real deal so far!

I wanted to sign up but I don't have a credit card. In many parts of the world, credit cards aren't the norm I think. Will something like Paypal be available in the future?

I modded my Lakland 55-01 (new bridge, pickups + ramp). Check it out: NBD: Lakland with mods | TalkBass.com

    NBD: Lakland with mods

I thought some of you might like to see this. Among other things, I changed the bridge on a Lakland. I bought a (used) Lakland 55-01 that is great as it is. As with any bass that I own I gave it a fret level, even though it really didn't need it. I don't like wide string spacing on five string...

Scale degree number when the root is not the lowest note.....

Scale degree number when the root is not the lowest note.....

If B is the root then any F is it's b5, no matter how high or low either note is. You're interpretation is correct. I understand the confusion. If B is the root, going a whole step down is considered playing the seventh (of B). But going down a whole step is also a descending major second.

Chords rather than scales for basslines... and what should I tackle next?

Chords are where it's at. Your scales will sound 10x better when you have a deeper understanding of chords. Jeff Berlin exercise: Carol Kaye is all about chords. Her lesson material is full of great insights on chord tones. She isn't alway the best at explaining concepts but the material is...

    Have scales ruined music?

Excellent post. Will the book be released anytime soon? This is the stuff that more people need to know about. Instead, many are stuck with learning which scales they can play over each chord type. I hate the way those people sound, too unmusical and mathematical for my taste.

I want advice on my practice schedule

You are spending almost all your time on scales and arpeggios, in my opinion too much for a beginner. There are other things to practise that are important to develop, like: Technique. I don't mean fancy slapping/tapping etc. but physically playing your instrument well. Accuracy, good tone...

Seriously, are TI strings really worth the high price?

They last longer than a few packs of regular roundwound strings so I consider any flatwound cheap in the long run. But that's only if you're actually going to use them I guess.

How much does a sound guy really tweak your bass sound?

I'm the guy who likes a warm, dry bass sound without metallic sounds or ear piercing highs. I usually play with dead rounds and still like to roll off some highs to get a warm fingerstyle sound. Would you recommend me playing with newer strings and just telling the sound man that I want a warm...

Thanks, much appreciated! Going to try it out. Not very clever marketing by DR if I can't find it while actively looking for it...

How much does a sound guy really tweak your bass sound?

I've been playing gigs for about 10 years and I've noticed that at most gigs I do (bars/party's/clubs) the sound guy seems to mainly focus on the volume levels of the instruments, especially when it comes to my bass. My sound check usually consists of checking if my DI signal works, taking less...
