Do yourself a favour and leave it the way it is! First; they are very rare, and if you tamper with it, you can lose a lot of money on resale. Second; I find the neck pick ups on Rics are muddy, I usually back off the neck pick up a bit when I play my 4003. I had a 1976 4000 in jetglo...biggest...

Ricks are definitely a "love it or hate it" bass. If you're not used to playing one, you'll find that they not very comfortable to play. However, with me they are like breaking in a new baseball glove, stiff at first, but once you've done all the little tweaks and got it set up the way you like...

I don't have any issues, I'm just wondering if the hip shot bridge changes the tone...or perhaps makes it sound more aggressive. Does it play any better set up wise...etc.

I totally agree here...exposed core are the best strings for B - string articulation.
