    New amp suggestions

I LOVE my Ampeg PF-500. Small, Light, and powerful. I've never had it over 1/2 way and use Fender Rumble 410, 700W for most gigs. @ 8hms it runs at 350 I think.

Getting a High End Bass...can't decide which.

Try a Carvin. Iv'e had Pedula, Fender, Warwick, None of them compare to the playability and tone of my Carvin.

Which Ampeg amp do you own

PF-500 as my only amp. Used with a Fender Rumble 4-10 (700W) for smaller stages (most) and add a Sub loaded w/ 15" eminence for large stages. Have had many compliments on tone from many sound guys.

    EARBUDS?

the biggest thing to look at is the frequency response. Some high end buds and full head cans only get down to around 35-40Hz. Then there are inexpensive ones that get all the way down to 20Hz. Some people will argue that a human prob cant hear 20Hz. But you sure can feel it.:D

    EARBUDS?

I use some $40 Sony's from Walmart. I have 4 kids who borrow them all the time. Had them for around a year.

    Tuning down to Drop D

Think about a 5 string? No re-tuning for any weird guitar set ups.

    Schaller Strap locks; loose pins

Same happened to me, I used fiberglass resin on the tooth picks. It's been several years and no loosening.

    Amp help!

Haven't owned one but seems 80 watt difference could be an issue. Can you get to the store and play them, with your bass? That should tell you everything but longevity.

    Disadvantages to a preamp/power amp

Thanks Stumbo! Nice work on the links. Now to Weed through tone VS power and find the one that fits my style and power needs. Wish they had some sound bytes to listen to:bassist:.

    Disadvantages to a preamp/power amp

Thanks for the input. May Your Tone, Taste, and Groove be ever better. I've been on line for day's trying to see ALL the "higher" powered "Portable" rigs out there. Even the High $$ stuff. (even though I'm just semi pro and can't afford them) and I must say there are a lot of amp builders out...

My setup takes about 45min-1 hour most of the time

Had a guitar player once who had more pedals and a complicated stereo rig than most AARP folks have pills so we built 2-2 tiered pedal boards with power. All he had to do was run power, plug one board into the other and into the rig. Went from a 20 minute set up to 5 at the most. Find yourself a...
