Whats the deal with jazz basses?

I used to be like you, I hated Jazz and Precision basses for an incredibly long time, but the moment you play a proper Fender Jazz bass is certainly eye-opening to say the least, coupled with being a good player and actually being able to PLAY properly, rather than being some novice just banging...

Do you take a back up bass to gigs?

I would discourage covering your band-mates backs gear wise, why? because they will slowly begin to rely on you completely for their gear back-ups etc, It's much much much better if each individual band member worries about his own gear. Trust me on this one.

    Jazz Bass or Precision Bass?

Really up to you man, Jazz basses have more natural mids and treble, and the neck much thinner (and superior IMO). While P basses have a distinct tone and have a nice natural low end and growl, they have a much chunkier, and solid neck, but hey. you could go and splash out on an Aerodyne? (mix...

The official "Show your basses" thread part 16!

Fender P basses are used by everybody because they are simply damn good instruments that are reasonably priced. I'd rather spend 1000 pounds on a standard P bass that i know is reliable and roadworthy than spend 10,000 on custom Luthier built bass that i probably would never be able to take out...

Could dating the chick singer tear the band apart?

And so if i went up to a female police officer and point to some girl, and said "That chick made a racist remark to me" would they say that i am being disrespectful? I highly doubt it. Its like calling a man a "Bloke" or a "Geyser".

Could dating the chick singer tear the band apart?

Depends how far you want the band to go, if you just want it as a hobby/ side project/ just a bit of fun. then sure! why not? But if you are looking to start gigging regularly, and going into the studio recording etc etc. Relationships will be strained at points, which can easily be rectified at...

I'm being considered as a session player for a death metal band. Advice?!

That band's vocalist deffo reminds me of a band i used to listen to...... anywho. You'll get the hang of it no problem, just so long as you lock in with the Drummers double kick, you should be ok. Drop tunings can be a problem, but thicker strings and little raise of the action should do the...

Bands with a 5 string Bassist..

Metal and Alt metal tend to use heavy down tunings, and so a 5 string often is just a logical option.
