    A 5-String Fretless Thread

I like the simplicity of the Ibanez Gary Willis 5-string. There are multiple price points depending on the place of manufacture. Japanese are top-of-the-line, but the Indonesian-made ones are just as great.

Should I add a tone knob to my Joe dart bass?

My opinion is that you shouldn't. How much does my opinion matter? Not at all, but that bass was designed to be just that. As simple as it gets. I wouldn't modify it as it will decrease its future value (whatever that may be). If you must, the stacked knob idea would get my vote! Brilliant! ...

    TB Cliché's and their opposites

    Official TUNE Club

I didn't know that there was a Tune Club... Now that I do, please add me! Tune Bass Maniac was my first real bass (after a totally beat-up Marchis Jazz Bass -copy that wasn't playable anymore) that my dad bought for me back in 1986. I played the hell out of it and probably a testament to the...

Just how important is my cab at this point?

I haven't needed any cabs in IEM gigs after I got BackBeat. That gives all the dynamic feel of a cabinet behind your back. It's cheaper than any regular pro-level cabinet. BackBeat - Play Bass, Feel Bass

    Original Bands? Why?

I've played and recorded original material with moderate success. The cover gigs are easier to sell, but the original material is so much more fun to play!

How attached are you to your amp?

I am very attached to my Mesa WD800 amp. Versatile, lightweight, sublime sound, and extensive sound shaping features. Great as a standalone amp to FOH (IEM setup), awesome with a cabinet!

    Open A string rattle/buzz

This is something that I can't grasp. Why make a design worse by causing the string to pool in the middle... Like you said it's a problem, especially with the a-string. There is nowhere near enough pressure. The A string just keeps popping out of the nut when playing hard.

Why do Carvin bass amps get such a bad rap ?

I had a Carvin Pro Bass head that regularly (like every month) blew a fuse. It was a decent amp, but unreliable.

Raised pole pieces for the A string ?

The first one was Seymor Duncan QP. The second was the stock pickup! The differences were quite minimal. I tried to play them with as same touch and feel as possible. I overlaid the samples and at times the waveforms were so similar that they canceled each other out. I decided to keep the...

Raised pole pieces for the A string ?

I uploaded the file to Soundcloud and embedded it to the previous post.

Raised pole pieces for the A string ?

I also have the satin neck and sticker version. This really is a very nice bass. After some time playing this bass, I can safely say it is one of the best Precisions I ever laid my hands on—dynamic, responsive, and great sustain. As per a private message from a fellow TBer I got information...

One raised polepiece in a Precision Pickup

I have a brand new Player Precision with just one of the A-string pole pieces raised in the pickup. Like this: So my question is: is it possible to lower this single piece or will it break the pickup? It makes the A string sound louder than others. That is easily remedied by lowering the...

What is the most absolutely CRUSHING bass tone you have heard?

Doug Pinnick's bass sound. Especially on the Dogman album.
