Yes, they sent them out of the factory to a local specialist for the sparkle finishes in those days!

Wow. I had a late ‘61 Jazzmaster in LPB with a green guard, I believe they introduced them in mid-late ‘61? Love the look of a custom color/green guard without a matching headstock, my favorite variation!

Yeah, way more if in nice shape - easily $25k + these days. I bet that black ‘61 was amazing! Something about a black P Bass with a green guard, quite a rare color on a pre-cbs bass as well.

Relic’d from 1964, 100% original. Still in great shape but some obvious play wear...

I like both P and J sounds when I hear others play them, but in my hands a P sounds/feels better. Also, and this is just IMO, the Jazz Bass is a bit ugly. I’m a huge offset guitar fan, too, but I don’t care for the J bass aesthetic.
