For reference my Tribute L2500 is totally quiet.

    Modified '81 l-2000E !!!! I want to cry!!!

Apart from the finish I actually think the electronics mod is terrific, gives you even more options.

    Tribute bass quality

Pretty good, the only flaw was the back of the neck had some spots that were not properly finished, leading to some darkening of the wood. Everything else seems to be spot on. Mine is a late MIK.

    Tribute bass quality

Nice bass jblock. After seeing the brown ash of your L2500 (just like mine), now I'm sure that my trib L2500 is a clear finish and not amber.

What resister will make series/parallel equal in volume

I opened my L2500, the middle switch has 12 pins which would explain how the coil switching is done. The strange thing is that the pickup selector has nine pins, so I assume that that it works in combination with the small pcb circuit:confused:

What resister will make series/parallel equal in volume

In a standard series parallel configuration (J type bass) it is perfectly possible to insert a resistor in series without affecting the parallel mode at all, using a single dpdt switch. In the L2x00 you'll obviously need a separate resistor for each pickup. I don't know how the coil...

What resister will make series/parallel equal in volume

You could experiment with a potentiometer, inserting it on the series mode perhaps. Once you get a similar volume between series/parallel measure the resistance of the pot and get the equivalent resistor, or fix a small potentiometer inside the circuit compartment.

Do you believe that new basses are better than older?

According to G Fullerton, Leo felt that his best guitar designs were the stratocaster and the L2000, he was also proud of the P-bass. So there you go, since he is endorsing guitar designs during his time at both Fender and G&L is that really biased?? I don't see the marketing agenda. Is...

    Do you play open strings?

In general I try to avoid them, they sound less focused, less control, worry more about muting. Also I don't like loosing the note patern feel on my left hand. I occacionally use the open E, but I voted no by principle! :) When I play on the fifth position I can avoid them most of the time.

    HAL LEONARD BASS METHOD QUESTION

Granted, but it depends on the person, in my case I always want to understand what or why I'm doing something, or I may get frustrated. If eeziebass is inclined that way then he better do his homework. Otherwise he can follow the book without questioning.

    HAL LEONARD BASS METHOD QUESTION

It's a fingering/reading exercise (not theory), just take the notes as they are. If you play the exercise you'll see the logic of the sequence, the notes go up and then down. The enphasis is getting your fingers in shape and to learn where the notes are. The first part of the book is...

    neck finish

Hi, I've got a problem with my MIK L2500, just realised that there are some patches in the back that are unfinished, and are are starting to get dark.:hmm: The back of the neck is satin finished. Does anybody know what's used to finish the back of the neck, would it be OK if I use Tung...
