Double Bass So I have this beat-up old DB which I know nothing about...

Except for the fact that this thread is five months old before it was resurrected. He might not even come to this forum anymore.

Double Bass looking for a student bass?

You wouldn't be talking about this if blah148 didn't like basses. :\

Double Bass Got it and I'm RRREADDY

I didn't think there were any DIY basses around that weren't cheap/chinese. :/

Double Bass Hofner 3/4 Double Bass

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=290292184765&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=019 It seems a bit cheap, but my father found this on ebay and thought I might be interested. It has "ebony fittings". I would have thought the ad would specifically say "ebony fingerboard"...

Double Bass Old Danelectro shorthorn bass.

Lol I only got the joke when I read the picture's URL.

    Double Bass King Bass?

Well, I dunno the brand, but one tip. If it's "solid top", it should sound very nice and be worth quite a bit, because "solid top" basses sound better over time, and this one has had a lot of time. If it's a "laminate", it will probably sound similar to the day it was made. And it won't be...

Double Bass Just starting: cello v. bass

Well, clearly there are many MANY musicians who play outside the accepted genre for their instrument, as we've discussed. But these are skilled people. We're dealing with a person who can't play either DB or cello (well, BG gives you a headstart with DB), and wants to know which to play...

Oh, my little diagram didn't come out right. D: Bump, anyway.

    Post pictures of obnoxious BGs.

I was originally going to post a topic regarding the ridiculous shrapnel-shaped heavy metal basses you see occasionally, but I'm also interested in the non-HM basses that you find to be impressive/disfigured/obnoxious/tryhard etc. There's one in particular I wanted to see, and I'm pretty sure...

What I meant was that you are FAR more likely to find a variety of DB teachers than cello teachers. You would be very lucky to find a cello teacher teaching a genre other than classical.

I didn't. I was leaving my sentence open for finishing. :)

Double Bass Just starting: cello v. bass

Lol, a wide open chair. :O But yes, I agree with fedex. If you're the kinda guy who doesn't like a lot of attention, then cello would be a better idea. If you like the attention, bass is the answer. At least here in Australia, you don't see many DBs, so when you do, it's an experience. :)

Double Bass Just starting: cello v. bass

Basses are used in a lot more styles than cellos. Bluegrass, rockabilly, old rock-n-roll, blues, jazz, tango, classical, etc. Cellos are more restrictive. You can either play classical music, or um...

Double Bass Any idea what I should pay for this?

What photo are you talking about? Not the one I'm talking about. That one's from zeytoun's photobucket.
