On the P7, I had the same thought. Before pulling out the pickups, I went ahead and raised them just a hair closer than the measurement in the owner's manual. Speaking of which, they weren't even that close to the strings. I picked up some thicker foam and was able to move them significantly...

Beautiful bass! I'd recommend a ups store. I was told by a USPS employee that they're really not responsible for packing things safely. It'll cost more, but the packing worries are all gone that way.

Not quite. Those are knob inserts that are super glued into the knobs and pull out (a little too easily) of you don't use a knob wrench/removal tool. They all do come off the pot shafts and normal knobs can be used. Happened with mine. I just pulled them off, super glued them back in and...
