Thanks everyone. I’m playing a big show this week so I’ll wait until next week to try it.

    Tricks for pulling knobs?

Hello all. I have a newish (<6 months) old Squier Affinity PJ that I would like to convert to VBT instead of VVT. I found a harness at BestBassGear but I can’t pull the original knobs off! I don’t see any set screws. I don’t want to break anything. I feel can grip the knurled knobs pretty good...

Jazz Bass for traditional Big Band jazz

The (jazz) band I play in does all kind of big band music, from Ellington and Basie up through Goodwin (RIP) and other contemporary composers in modern styles. I’ve used my Jazz, my P-J, and my Rob Allen fretless all with success. Tone controls on the instrument and your amp are your friends.

    PJ pickguards

Hi all. I hope this is the right forum. I just bought a Squier Affinity PJ bass. I like it fine, but thought I might try to change the pickguard. Will any P bass pickguard fit this bass? I saw somewhere that the pickup position was slightly different on the Squier basses. Thanks!

Show Us Your Rob Allen Basses Part IV

Dunno if this helps but I have played my fretless MB-2 in a big band for years now with lots of positive responses from listeners. The tone is perhaps not ideal for Tower of Power style tunes but it’s good enough to not bother with switching.

    Chuck Mangione: R.I.P.

I cut my teeth on Chuck’s big band arrangements in the early ‘70s: Legends of the One-Eyed Sailor, Land Of Make Believe, before he hit it big with FSG. But I always really liked his early quartet: Chuck Mangione - flugelhorn, elec piano, percussion Gerry Niewood - soprano sax, tenor sax...

I... don't know how to practice.

At home I have my bass on a stand where I can pick it up easily. Practicing for me is muscle memory. Home is (generally) quiet so I can hear the bass well enough without getting involved in cables, headphones or whatever.

Double Bass The Rite of String

I’m not being judgmental. I’m just surprised.

Double Bass The Rite of String

Wow, is changing strings for particular programs a thing now? For an orchestra gig? I only play EB but I worked with a symphony for many years and I never heard of such.

    Double Bass ForScore issue

I wanted to check something in the manual. It’s back on line now. Sorry about the confusion.

    Double Bass ForScore issue

I tried to go to support from inside the program today and I get an error message: ‘Error establishing a database connection.’ I tried logging into the full web site through Safari and the same message comes up. Their server is down?

Show Us Your Rob Allen Basses Part IV

Posted this in the fretless thread then I realized it should go here as well. MB-2 bought used about 10 years ago. I’ll never let it go.

I don’t care about numbers or membership cards, but here is a photo of me with my Rob Allen MB-2.
