Where can you get a substantial modular power cord?

I like this one: Invalid Link Removed Plenty of wire for any bass amp, good quality, and not stupid expensive. I use one with my TC RH450, as well as my tube microphone preamps in my recording rack.

    DIY very small cabinet

If you want something pretty hi-fi, I came up with this cabinet design, using the ubiquitous B102 10" driver. The mid is a Beyma 5", more compact than the 6" drivers popular for bass cabs. I have no idea how it sounds - haven't quite finished the cabinet yet. But, it should sound OK. The cabinet...

Question about filing out a string saddle

Well, it's possible that slotting the saddle will help, but it may be something else. As a practice, I slot all my bridge saddles with the appropriate nut file, matching the diameter of each string. Like a nut, I aim for a slot that is slightly less than half the string's diameter. This creates...

Busted truss rod - what to do?

Hmm, good point. The board is glued with West system epoxy, which does have a lower melting temp than CA. I use a heating blanket for bending acoustic sides, and it has pretty accurate temperature control. It would be great to not have to redo the binding!

    Double stick tape

Quick tip: Once you have the template in place on the blank you're about to rout, take a clamp and apply some pressure at a number of points along the tape joint. It helps the binding and prevents shifting. Also, clean the template and wood with naptha first to make sure there's no greasy...

Busted truss rod - what to do?

OK, I think I already know the answer to this, but the trussrod adjustment socket broke off the trussrod after I glued the fingerboard on. Apparently, epoxy leaked into the channel and seized the threads. WhenI attempted to turn the nut, the sockethead sheared off. I expect I'll have to heat the...

    1-10 cabs - any experiences?

OK, been messing with some designs on this 1-10. One cabinet is 18 1/2" deep (and 15 1/2" square width-height) with a -3 dB point of 49.1 Hz, and the second is 22 1/2" deep with a -3 dB of 43.5 Hz. Not a large difference in -3 dB points, but it says to me that the response of the larger will...

    1-10 cabs - any experiences?

Thanks! I was actually planning on the BP102 since the neodymium 10s are expensive. I eventually want to build a full size fEARful 12-12/6 or 15-6, but I don't need a full size cab just yet.

    1-10 cabs - any experiences?

Hi all. I'm thinking about building a 1-10 cab for living room jamming and recording with a TC RH450 head. I've never seen a 1-10 bass cab, but there are a number of good 10" bass drivers around, so I thought it might actually work, since I'm not after high volume. So, I drafted a cab design...

    Babicz Bridge

Quick ? for those who have this bridge - do the strings rest on what looks like a knife edge on the actual saddle? I'm thinking a light pass with a string gauge nut file to make a halfround groove in the saddle edge would increase string-to-saddle contact some. Probably not a major thing, but I...

sound of blackood for a body

OK, first, to expand on Beej's answer, (and of course, all of this is IMHO) wood's effect on the tone is slight, but... the neck wood has the most effect, followed by the body wood(s), mostly bewteen the bridge and the neck mounting (unless it's a neck-through). The thin cap on multilaminated...
