Yes, an early 4000! I guess Geddy's back must be in good shape. About 20 years ago I was given an opportunity to play one of these old basses and found it was noticeably heavier than my '74 4001 which weighs about 9.4 lbs. If I recall correctly, the body was 1-5/8" thick.

According to the Rickenbacker price list for 1980, the string set in question was S4460 and the gauges were along the lines of .02x, .03x, .045, .056, .077, and.103. I can't determine the exact gauges for the two lightest strings as they are not listed on the bulk strings list.

Rickenbacker 4005. I bought a new one in 1983 having never had the opportunity to ever try one in person. Very cool looking bass but a dud in the tone department. Seemed to have the worst characteristics of both solid and hollow basses.

Another vote to leave the Burgundyglo as is. My '74 4001 (which I've had since '77) does have the surround cutaways. It also has a toaster for the neck pickup.
