OMG, i just found my strings, Elixir nickels on my jazz bass

Yup! Tried every offering from Elixir over the years, the stainless isn't as flexible as nickel and stays brighter for longer, but I noticed a larger difference in tone deadening after the break in. Also the cores on them seem to snap at the bridge more often on my instruments... I think it may...

OMG, i just found my strings, Elixir nickels on my jazz bass

I've been using mainly Elixirs on my working basses for the past decade. Play active Jazz basses as well. They last longer than anything else if you wipe them down after shows and practice. They maintain a decent tone for the entire life of the string instead of that typical progression...BRIGHT...

    Aguilar sl115 with a Fender Rumble 210

Just picked up an AG700 and have it paired with the Rumble 210 cab I had (extension to the rumble 500 combo that just died)...The head is amazing, but I purchased it after trying it on top of a Mesa Subway 115. When I got it home, it obviously sounded "rumble-like" through the 210. It handled...

Rumble 500 combo died...would appreciate input on replacement

Update. Tried out a Mesa Subway D800 and an Aguilar AG500 v2... Was close but ordered the Aguilar AG700v2. Loved the clean basic sound with miles of headroom. To my ears, works well with that rumble 210 cab I have. Thanks for the input all. now gotta figure out what to do with that...

Rumble 500 combo died...would appreciate input on replacement

I'm going to go try out a few things this week. Curious about playing something new to get a handle on whats out there. Yes it makes sense to match the Fender 210 cab I have with a matching head. Or buying a quality head I can switch cabs with if it doesnt work like I want. So much reading and...

Rumble 500 combo died...would appreciate input on replacement

Agreed. I've always been under the impression its better to overdrive a cab slightly than underdrive it if a perfect match cant be made. I wouldnt push it hard anyway. Not easy to find something exactly 350watts @ 8ohms. most are slightly over or like 100watts under it seems. Only ones that...

Rumble 500 combo died...would appreciate input on replacement

No poking around was done that would complicate a repair on a 10 year old combo. Cleaning pots was the most invasive thing and just used contact cleaner and worked them a bit. Going to pack up the cabinet, a bass and drive to a couple shops around me this week. curious about a comparison...

Rumble 500 combo died...would appreciate input on replacement

Appreciate it so far. Was overall happy with the combo but of course had little nitpicks here and there depending on venue or setting. almost never brought volume or gain past the 9 oclock position. I actually dont see much of difference at all from the 500 vs 800 combo and I can honestly say...

Rumble 500 combo died...would appreciate input on replacement

Hi all, been years since I posted. 15 years in with a busy cover/wedding band on the Jersey Shore. Bought the rumble 500 combo new 10 years ago and its been fantastic. Never push it hard (always DI'ed into a nice system). Last night it turned on at a gig and wouldnt get any sound other than...

Brice HXB2-404 Headless Nat Burl B Stock - Need Advice about QC

Ive had a bass or 2 (homemade and/or cheap) that have had this issue. I managed to fix it in the cheap bass by shimming the side of the neck pocket and pushing the actual neck over a degree or 2. The homemade bass I just couldnt figure out short of resetting the bridge...which was a hell no. I...

    The Myth of Neck Dive

2 words... Warwick Thumb. Haven't played one without serious neck dive. It seems that you spend so much energy and muscle tension trying to keep that neck up, its hard to play. A good strap does help in most cases with the issue, but every bass/human/strap/playing position is different, so too...

    Reggae Bass, The Amp...

I listen to a lot of Reggae...the low end (80hz and lower) is key in my mind to the sound/feel. I do understand the bandmate's wish for that but do they want the onstage presence? If so, are you using wedges or in ears? If the PA has sub support, throw those lows in them for front of house and...

    The band trailer

Balance the weight load over the axle. That is key. Also don't put markings on the outside of it to let anyone know whats in it. Install a few LED motion activated puck lights on the ceiling (dirt cheap on amazon and the batteries last forever). Hitch lock is a plus and look into a folding cart...
