Are you a Goldilocks bass player?

If guitar/bass is any amount out of tune or if there is any amount of feedback, my head explodes a little.

    Pricing for venues/bars

I played out in south east PA for a few years at local bars. Going rate was about $400/night for a decent local band. Waaay to much work for me. Getting all the gear there, setting up, playing, tearing down, getting home after 3am. Fun for a few years, but it got old. My favorite gigs are where...

    Selling tickets for shows

from my experience, tix sales is for new bands that haven't proved they can draw a crowd. If the band sells the tix (or just eats the cost of unsold tix), then the venue doesn't loose money if no one shows up. Not a bad way to start for young guys with 100's of friends and no families. if a...

How far do you have to travel for band practice/rehearsal ?

We rotate practices between the Guitar player's house and the Drummer's house. Each are ~45 min from my place. We practice 1x a month.

    Original Band Start up

Good Stuff so far guys. Thanks for sharing. We record all of our practices (audio and video) and then review what we did for an hour at the end of practice every week. The video is kinda cool, it is making me realize i need to play with more energy. I listen to the audio during the week as...

Lead Guitar has a side project

A year later... The lead guitar left the band last fall. We went through 2 other guys in 6 months and then I left the band in February this year. After 2 years we should have been pretty solid, but we were never able to play consistently well. the nice thing about being a bass player; I was...

    Original Band Start up

I left my classic rock cover band and joined a new alternative pop/punk original group. while I've been in original bands before, they never got anywhere because we didn't know how to get off the ground. We just started playing together about 2 months ago, we have zero following and need...

"You're TOO LOUD !!!" "You guys are the GREATEST..."

I am in a too loud all the time band. We get away with it at large venues, but at small clubs it is terrible... Good thing we have a group of die hard fans that follow us, or the small clubs would clear out. We have a gig at a new place next week, I am so worried we will bleed their ears and...

85 Guild Pilot Pups and G string.

Some updates: •replaced all the springs/screws/pads on the pups which made them much easier to adjust. •dissembled the bridge. Cleaned and oiled all adjustment parts. •Raised the P pickup section that is under the D/G strings •Raised the bottom side of the J (so that it...

Tapping your foot when you play

I have heard comments that sometimes all 4 of us (2x guitars, singer, me) are all tapping our feet in unison. My foot is like its own entity, it just taps when it feels like it. I almost always tap on rests to keep my timing, or I pat my bass with my right hand. Sometimes I even stop my foot...

85 Guild Pilot Pups and G string.

This is likely at least 1 of my problems. I'll post an update after I check them this weekend.

85 Guild Pilot Pups and G string.

thanks for the replies. consensus seems to be: confirm wiring/setup before writing off pups, which sounds like great advice. I will re-check soldier joints, pot values, adjust pup height, and see if strings could come down a little.

Here is the best pic i could find of the pups.

85 Guild Pilot Pups and G string.

I have been playing a mid 80's guild Pilot for about 2 years. I have rotosound flatwounds on it, and I think it has the original EMG actives. I got this bass with non-working electronics out of a guys closet about 10 years ago and fixed it up the best I could. I am worried that the pups...

    Battle of the Bands

I was going to make a thread, but I bumped this one instead. I signed my band up for a battle of the band next month. I was reluctant to do so (since we already gig around 1x a month for a year and we are all a little older), but this one didnt seem too bad. 1: the guy hosting it is around 45...
