    from my birdseye experience, most pieces that I cut into smell awful. I don't know why, but it just does. Bocote on the other hand smells like dill pickles, which is quite nice. build looks awesome so far! Keep going :D

    I was going to suggest transtint red for the body, But I can see that its too late now. never thought of using oil paint to tint a piece of wood, hopefully it totally dries for you before you start with the true oil. there's a really good wipe on poly that is satin, and it dries pretty fast...

    I was going to say get some transtint black, but transtint is about $20 per bottle. the stewmac fretboard stain is probably the way to go. I might actually pick some up for myself. good find!

    Another build has begun...

    Picked up some wood today to start a new build. Hard mapke body, padauk, wenge neck, and a cocobolo fretboard. It will be a 5 string fan fret build. All ive done so far is cut some neck laminations. Stay tuned as pics and updates roll in. Link Removed
