Yes, I know the guy has played on tons of studio stuff for famous musicians, but the only time I've heard him doing his own thing is with "Fourplay", which I strongly dislike. I've noticed Idol having great house bands before. Which figures being it's in LA and a multimillion dollar program.

Gary Willis... Best five string fretless improvisor alive with great tone, but has a completely different technique than I use(very light 3 fingered picking). I rely more on growl and attack. Love listening to him but could never sound like him...

That's a really bizarre video... from Roddy Piper showing up and actually trying to play Berlin's bass to the pathetic Jaco segment lots of oddities in there. There are also some pretty good lessons as well.

I've been looking at (no, drooling over really) the L-2000 and 2500s, but while the blue and green bursts look oustanding purple would be my ideal... Think they would ever offer such?

Zia Geelani... played bass in a band called Ozric Tentacles for 10 years and his lines are bad ass.

1. I've never seen it transcribed and don't know. 2. His playing sounds even to me up until the head at like 1:25. The vamp is just the rhythmic tritone thing he does with a sort of filler groove between tritones... it sounds very even to me.

There's a tune called "Mood Swings" on a Mike Stern album as well that Jaco plays on. I'm thinking Stern wrote that one... it's an outstanding tune and well produced on the album, called "Upside Downside".

The one time I was in Ohio I got to see a band at Dick's Den in Columbus called Men of Leisure... the tenor and guitar players shredded through standards and a Macio Parker tune. This was back in the summer of '96 and I've not forgotten that show cuz they ****ing rocked... That's all I know...
