I was thinking the same thing. IMO Ricky is a great player, but must be very confident bringing in a power horse like Nate to fill the chair. You never know Nathan might like a gig like that right in his own backyard?

Ricky is very well established as a Musical director/contractor/bassist at this point.He put bands together for a bunch of people and actually musical directs for many gig's that he does not actually play on.
As an aside, did anyone notice how stoned Paula Abdul looked/acted? She barely made sense all night!
I caught that quick glimpse of NE and the Yamaha and pointed it out to me wife. She said "how can you notice that in one nanosecond but you can't see stuff in the living room I asked you to put away?". Dang, busted.

It was Nathan. I was channel surfing and there was a quick closeup of the background singers that he was in. I guess Ricky was too busy conducting so he called Nathan... it must be great to be a 1st call session bassist!

. I keep up with Ricky's career and he is doing very well for himself. I have much respect for him in all the areas you mentioned. He's a smart man and has set himself up to make money in the music world; not just as a player!

Yes, I know the guy has played on tons of studio stuff for famous musicians, but the only time I've heard him doing his own thing is with "Fourplay", which I strongly dislike.
I've noticed Idol having great house bands before. Which figures being it's in LA and a multimillion dollar program.

Missed it, but Jason Castro is going to win the whole thing. He is very marketable and has his own voice.

I respect your opinion, but I thought he should have been the one kicked off this week. His performance was horrible, and he has been out performed for the last several weeks. He sings every song exactly the same. His personality is the only thing keeping him in. IMO of course.
