    not yet

    Do you name your basses?

I give them a number. I don't need to know their name.;) Actually, if I gave them names, I'd forget them anyway. Usually, I'll just refer to the model of any given bass like "The Europa" or "The Hofner" or by the color, if it's easily described, like "The purple Schecter".

Who is the most successful 'minimalist' bass player you know?

How about the Master of Walking Roots, Dee Murray ? Also Klaus Voorman.

    Flats - Do I need to man-up?

By the time I saw this thread it was already 13 pgs long, so I didn't read every post. I agree that "most" flats will leave you a bit underwhelmed if you're going from nickel rounds. BUT....there is one (and only one) exception that I know of: Pyramid Gold .40-.100 chrome steel flats. Handmade...

Anyone playing bass clean with no effects?

I don't like the idea of using effects to "make" the tone. That being said, a bit of reverb and delay does sweeten up the sound while practicing. I don't know how well that would translate playing DI.

    Flatwound String Choices...

YMMV, but there's only one flatwound for me. Pyramid Gold .40-.100. They will spoil you. They're std on all Hofner 500 series basses (Hofner-branded). And pricey. But they last forever.

    Do I want a German Hofner 500/1

One nice thing is you can always re-sell a genuine German Hofner. They don't do a whole lot in the Registration/paperwork Dept; about the only thing you get is a hang tag with the model and serial #and mfg date on it. Just stick that somewhere in the case, but don't lose it. Any Hof enthusiast...

SOLD Mesa Boogie 400+ price drop $850

I think the power stays the same, but don't quote me on that because I've never run mine at 8. I know at 2 or 4 it's the loudest amp I've ever heard. The price is very nice on this.

    SOLD Mesa Boogie Bass 400+

I happen to own one of these, and I can say I'll never let it go, unless I get so broke I'm down to eating eating mice. If I lost it due to to some disaster, I'd be looking for another one. GLWS. (the Sovteks are a nice touch )

Ok, BIG AMP lovers, which one would you choose...

Don't know if you're only limiting this to current production amps, but if you can find a good used Mesa Bass 400+, grab it and you'll never be disappointed.

'66 Hofner 500/1 FS Only. EX

I hear ya'. I paid $ 199 for my '73 P brand new. Sold it for $ 250 in '81 because I needed money in dental school. Wouldn't mind having another one, but no way I would part w a Hofner to get it. Good luck to you howver it turns out. ;)

What could possibly be so desirable as to convince you to part with such a tasty vintage cupcake like this?
