Do you name your basses?

To answer the folks that are saying they feel no connection to their instruments, I feel that to play with passion one needs to feel a connection to one's instrument, whether or not you give the instrument a name. But that's just me!

Am a total amateur but have done quite a bit of touring around the country with the one bass I play (have several but this one has the nicest tone). Over the years have had so many enjoyable moments, met so many people, crashed in so many hotels rooms, drank so many delicious pints of stout with that bass in tow that I have a definite emotional connection to the object, well, at least the parts that originated from several trees. Earlier in the year some idiot drove over me in a car, a while later I was back gigging, looked at stage lighting on the back of the precision's neck and was almost moved to tears by the fact that we were out together again. I suppose I feel lucky that I get to play at all, and those moments of elation and otherwise are somehow embodied in the instrument, for me. I guess was I a day-to-day professional musician I'd take it for granted more.

Am a software engineer by trade and would gladly f*ck my laptop off the nearest wall if I suddenly became independently wealthy.

Edit: anytime I see someone with "tech" stickers on their laptop I think, "bloody amateur!". Similar thing maybe.

Suzy is my cream colored Czech made MTD and
Vera is my Smith.

Suzy and I shall never part. we have been together almost 20 years now and I have played her almost exclusively the entire time. Vera was making quite an impression for a while and almost became my number one. its just nobody plays like Suzy does. Nobody

One question. Is Suzy in reference to a Mothers Of Invention song?

Seems like, especially if you have more than one say, Fender P-bass, you'd consider naming them to keep them straight.

Or is that just weird?

And if you do name them, I'd love to hear what names you've given them.
Call me weird, but I have named all of my basses! Just my Fbasses for example from left to right......
Melody, Thera, Fabiana and Faith.

Only 2 out of 8. The first is my '69 Gibson EB3L and that is OMG because that s what everyone says when I pull it out on special occasions. The other is a 2012 Precision that was named by my 7 year old Granddaughter and that's Abby Normal because Young Frankenstein is her favorite movie.
Being a retired old sailor I call everything "She" just out of habit.

I was pondering naming my basses just the other day. I’ve never done it before. I have an artic white J and P with maple necks and tortoise shell pickguards. Bill and Ben came to mind for no particular reason. I suppose I’ll have to name another Little Weed just to carry on the theme.

I give them a number. I don't need to know their name.;)

Actually, if I gave them names, I'd forget them anyway. Usually, I'll just refer to the model of any given bass like "The Europa" or "The Hofner" or by the color, if it's easily described, like "The purple Schecter".
