Why have a nice rig just to be run direct?

When playing live you just have to roll with the punches and just expect your sound to change every venue. Live equipment is all about versatility. you almost never will get "your" tone at every venue or at least not using the same settings you have to be very flexible and sometimes you need to...

    Another P-bass pickup upgrade thread

in the discription from dimarzio's site it says the split P was designed to compensate for how midrangy the 1 pickup P sounds and extend the bass and trebble to make it sound more full sounding. so it sounds like it was made to enhance the good reduce the bad.

Mesa Powerhouse Cabs - The Big Boys!!!

mesas have seemed very bright and slightly nasaly to me with eq ran flat so expect to have to deal with that. but they are pretty solid cabs i love how the housing for the cab is so close to the speaker so the cabs arent unecisarrily big they make the cabs as small as possible.

EMG-TW pickups, like them or not.

try running your bass in 18volt that will add alot of balls to your sound and is REALLY simple can find all the things you need to do it at radio shack

G&L JB verses the 50th anniversary Fender Jazz Bass

im kinda thinking the jazz would be something special. not too many people will buy theese and would be easy to get rid of if you diceded to. plus they already have the blocks you want i couldent imagine justifying 300 bucks for that when the fender comes stock with it.

How would you build this tone?

he talks about his setup here http://www.bassplayer.com/article/high-fire-/May-2008/35685 he uses some kind of gibson or dean with humbuckers like on a thunderbird

    I just scored a Ampeg SVT-VR

P basses get pretty hummy if you are useing alot of volume and gain. i had to redo my P-basses ground before because it was shocking my hands. you should double check that. it only takes 10 mins to replace so it is sorta a "beter safe then sorry" type thing
