How would you build this tone?

I could be wrong, but it sounds like the signal has been split, with one side distorted and trebley, and the other maybe slightly overdriven with the treble cut out after the OD. I'd say for sure the strings are round wound, and the slightly overdriven channel is run from the neck pickup. The distorted channel may be comming from the bridge pickup, but I can't tell for sure.

when i was running my SVT, I would do that live by miking and running an wet loop straight to the DI.

that way the sound guy could mix in the effects as needed for the room. or pull em back without killing everything if they hit too much.

sometimes, you just gotta trust your sound guy.
