    Please help ID this Hofner!

So I was wandering the depths of craigslist an came upon this Hofner CT Violin Bass in my area. To my surprise it was listed ridiculously cheap! I inquired about it, just to make sure that it was a CT and not an ICON or some other model. When I asked him about it I didn't get a response about...

Double Bass My First Bass - Thompson RM-200

I went through a similar process when purchasing my first upright bass. The only real "expectations" I had were to get a bass that was in good condition, was playable, and was not too expensive. I found a bass on craigslist for $500 after months of internet research. It was a Strunal (Josef...

Merch - what's working for you?

My band took the approach to sell the most ridiculous merch that we could devise. We had army helmets, beer koozies, hammers, bags of dice with a hilarious picture and gambling instructions on the back, shot glasses, a bible, wallets and of course shirts hats and cds. We sold out of everything...

    The Fine Line

Thanks for the advice. I guess even with those two things in order most places aren't going to give you a guarantee. In fact now that I think about it I've rarely played anywhere where we weren't working with a door deal. I guess that's the curse of playing originals...

    The Fine Line

Saying "Howdy" is the same as saying "Hello." I sincerely doubt that any booking agent is going to judge my professionalism based solely on that... rather than content of my correspondence. Which is what I really want people's opinion about. I understand the concept of networking and...

    The Fine Line

Yeah, I say howdy because we are sort of alt-country/rockabilly, so it sort of fits the band persona. As far as attachments, that's something that I'm not sure about. We have a press kit, I guess it doesn't really hurt anything to include it. All social media links including youtube are at the...

    The Fine Line

I've been in an original band for three years come this September. We're just now trying to break in to the regional circuit and have multiple cities that are within a 2-3 hour drive (we're located in Baltimore). We've done a weekend run up to some college towns in West Virginia and have...

    1975 Gibson SG Bass

Hmm, interesting. Seems my friend didn't know exactly what he was talking about then. I wasn't going to give him $600 anyways, just from the condition alone. Thanks for the info

    1975 Gibson SG Bass

A little while back my buddy was attempting to shop me his 1975 Gibson SG Bass. I didn't have the money for it at the time but things are looking up right now so I'm reconsidering. He says all the parts are original except for the tuning pegs. Output is a little weak because the pickups are...

Double Bass Somebody Please Help Me!

What exactly do you mean by this? I noticed a little bit of wear on the fingerboard when I purchased the bass. But I figured that any used bass would have a little natural wear. Any idea what it would run me to have an ebony fingerboard installed?

Gig - too good to be true?

In my experience, if it sounds WAY too good to be true... then it is. I wouldn't hold my breath. People always talk to me about these amazing events at a super secret venues that nobody knows about where 500 heads show up and there's tons of spoils to be had. As soon as I start talking...

    The Band Fund

Fair enough. I just wish that more club owners would pony up a little more cash on the principle of time and energy spent to bring a quality, original product to their venue. Instead we usually get the shaft and splitting up our money at the end of the night is more of a joke than a thought.

    The Band Fund

This is certainly an interesting topic. In my band, I am the manager of the funds. Anytime we get paid for a gig I immediately go up to the person who received the money and take it from them, and this is the general understanding. As a result, with using little to no personal income we were...

Double Bass Somebody Please Help Me!

Okay, so it looks like it was manufactured by Strunal. Does "ebonized softwood fingerboard" mean fake ebony basically? The fingerboard does have some wear on it already, but what exactly should I keep an eye on? I'm going to take it to a Luthier to have him appraise it and do a setup if needed.

Double Bass Somebody Please Help Me!

Thank you! I'm not sure why Strunal never came up in any of my searches. From what I gathered $500 was a pretty nice deal for it.
