It might be worth checking for a loose jack socket either on the rumble send/return or on one of the pedals as well as changing the cables.

I'm usually not a fan of the headstock finish matching the body but that I like, a lot.

I was exactly today old when I learned this about the Rumbles! I too just assumed that 0 gain = actual -Inf gain like on all my guitar amps. I can't wait to get home from work and see what it sounds like.
