Fender Rumble Club

I didn't get much feedback from the Jazz bass club. What do my Rumblers think of the new 75th Jazz? My local L&M says they've got one coming in in August and if I put a bill down then it's going to get set aside for me. I must say I'm really tempted. I've got a bunch of gear I want to sell and in the past L&M gave nearly as much on credit as I'd get in cash out of local sales. So that's not helping the GAS.

You had me at maple fretboard and matching headstock!

I'm usually not a fan of the headstock finish matching the body but that I like, a lot.

Well, Yamaha has finally gotten Ampeg into competition with the Fender Rumbles with their new Rocket Bass line! And, on paper, it looks pretty close. It only took 'em 7 years to catch up. The RB-115 even looks 1/2 lb. lighter and just $30 more. But the RB-112 is almost 4 lb.s heavier and is $100 more! Plus, all the Ampegs are just 3-band EQ to Fenders 4-band for the 40 & up.
All new AMPEG Rocket Bass Combo Amp's.

One can assume(I know)that 7ender has been aware of these. What's the answer gonna be? Hmm....

The Rumbles are still the better amps. They look better, have matching extension cabs, cost less, and have a more flexible EQ. Plus IMO they sound much better.

I like the new Rocket Bass amps and I'm happy for the competition. I imagine Fender will do something. Like new 15" speakers that can handle 400 watts perhaps. Maybe a new 400c/Club 400, blend knob on the OD circuit, slightly refined looks to match the 800h. I don't see the V3s getting replaced but I could see them being upgraded. There's only so much you can do to bring down weight and bring up power. And doing things like adding compression or tuners typically just add needless complexity and cost. Going all digital would be a mistake too, at least in the current iteration.

I like the Stage and Studio, a lot. But it wouldn't be hard to find bassists who say I don't want to have to fiddle with no computers! Then they just go buy the Ampegs.

If it were me I'd be doing a lot of refining of the V3 line. As much as I can while keeping the cost about where it is now and adding power and lightness. Maybe even put out new grilles for people to order to spruce up their current Rumble. Like 3 types of black grille which shine in the light. Fiesta red, sonic blue, and seafoam green. Sell some matching knobs too. It wouldn't really make money but it'd steal some attention from Ampeg.:smug:

I ended up watching the Andertons video about these. Which I can post here because a Rumble is involved! The colour does look pretty nice on these when you see them outside the more sterile pictures.

I love when these guys demo stuff I'm into because 9 times out of 10 they run it through a Rumble. This video is what gave me the final push I needed to get one. The guitars look cool too.

Yeah, BBassy, the new Rocket Bass amps are just now catching up to the Rumbles, without surpassing them. In fact, the Fearless Leader of the Combo Club even thanks Fender for making it happen! It's a clear validation of the Rumble line, alright. ;)

And, yes, some enhancements to the Rumbles would certainly be welcome. We know Fender listens, as can be seen in the Pre/Post switch and other improvements in the 800 HD head over the discontinued 200 & 500 heads. But, I wouldn’t be surprised if Fender refuses to rest on their laurels and may really knock our socks off in the coming year, or so!

What's a fair price for a used Rumble 500? I don't really have any use for this, but one is for sale not too far from me for $400. It is on casters and has some scratches on the back. No other info provided. Any significant differences between the various versions (original, V2 & V3) and how do I tell?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Sure, but now when people refer to "o'clock" settings, you'll be all screwed up.
True, but there might be some of them there youngsters on TB that probably can't read one of them there old fashioned clocks with the hands on them.

What? Set the knobs to 10:30? What? :(

Yes but then there is Gibson that puts numbers on the instruments, "but now days" put numbers with no reference.

But in the old days had a reference mark.

In real estate it's all about location, location, location. In electronics it's all about condition, condition, condition and, of course, functionality. Play through it and see if everything works. $400 is just 67% the new price. If everything works and doesn't look too banged up, it could be a great bargain! If some things don't work or it's very banged up, it may not be a bargain. Most likely it'll be between those extremes and you may need to negotiate, then make your own judgment call. There is no V1 or V3 R500c, only V3.

Casters? Are they necessary? They will add more weight when carrying. But first, check Reverb.com and GuitarCenter.com for their used R500c prices for some ballpark guides.

Hope this helps.
