I went with the Walrus Audio Slö. There is some nice modulation if you want it, but the main selling point to me was the tone knob. It lets you dial out any treble that interferes with the clean sound.

I agree with all the Genzler, Aguilar and Mesa recommendations. I have a Magellan 800, and have played through a TH500 and Subway 800. The Magellan can go from pristine to warm. The Mesa and Aguilar both do gritty and dirty better, which you may like for a rock band. Good luck!
