It was a fine album.

Hello Andy. No story, but that it is adapted from that album cover.![]()
I did have a Ventris. But it has gone for a short time. It was just not my cup of tea.Hi DC. Long time! When Neunaber ran their 15% discount recently, I almost bought the Immerse Mk II. Even at its full price it is an excellent deal. With its high quality and feature set to price ratio, and its high power to small size ratio, Immerse Mk II is a kind of "perfect" pedal. There is no accounting for taste. But fact that you compare the Immerse Mk II so favorably to such as the Big Sky is telling.
For now, while I am not acquiring more reverb pedals, I remain very happy with my Empress Reverb. Listing toward the realistic end of reverb simulations, the Empress is quite flexible, but always characteristically sweet-sounding. In my estimation, Empress spent a lot of time on the room algorithm in Reverb. It is impressive.
From that basis, plus the usual high quality Empress build and audio, the real power of Empress Reverb is its expression features. If you don't use them, you won't miss them. But once you do, and you spend time designing presets that use expression, the Empress Reverb becomes deep. Lastly, it is very easy to use.
I also own a Source Audio Ventris Dual Reverb, which I find to have an edgy and "modern" sound. Frankly I think they tried too hard; many of the algorithms sound to me gratuitously complex or busy. But sometimes that is just the thing. If I want more obviously "cinematic" reverb than I can make with the Empress (for occasional use with my modular synth, for example), Ventris delivers. I have yet to use its expression features, which promise to be formidable.
A specific place,... on Earth,... in any mix,... why is “need” your only criteria? What's a reverb?...On what planet, in what mix, are you needing reverb on your bass?
Just saying...
