Will tape wounds mess up my fretboard?

What are tape wounds exactly? I've heard about them I have no idea what the aspects pros/cons are of them.

I really don't want to mess up my fret board though, that's the problem. I was looking at Steve Harris signature flatwounds but no one I know has tried them out so I'm not sure yet.

Use James Hetfield's Black Fang 1.14 mm picks, i believe it gives you great power and sturdiness but not too think to where it is uncomfortable

The sound is coming from the bridge. Its a Rogue Fretless Bass

Whenever i hit my D- String, there is a vibrating noise that comes from my bridge. I have no idea what it could be, are there any common reasons for this? If there is let me know.
